an art series for musical artist ‎Taïr. I was commissioned to create artwork for two projects:
"Altaluna" & "Heaven in the morning"
my goal for each piece was to bring the vibe and content alive to provide a visual of what the music felt like and how it connected to me personally. these pieces were used as digital album artwork as well as printed graphic art.
heaven in the morning: on first listen, heaven in the morning presents a contemplation on life set in a feeling of dread and "hell at night" that through willful optimism is succeeded. the gothic sonics of the song reminded me of religious prints leading me to reference the work of Albrecht Dürer. i wanted to present a modern graphic that displayed and even borrowed from those aesthetics.
Dürer's demons pull into a modern world that is as vast and bare as their home settings, a faux parchment background is used rather than a woodcut to resemble a crushed flyer. the demons pull the subject into this space as they pray in order to withstand thought the night.
altaluna: altuluna, "high moon" is presented literally and figuratively. A black figure is presented with a joint sitting on the crescent moon. The refference being a pottery Figure of a black man sold next to the likes of figures like the  "Tar Baby" is now seen on the moon, a reference to the famous Dreamworks logo.
throughout altaluna, nash makes commentary on his own life and the times he lives in and it was important to align the art with the same ideas. The clouds are meant to not only set this drug-induced dream-like setting but also show the distance of the concept. this idea of the black man now on the moon. an idea as surreal on July 20th, 2021 as it was on July 20th, 1969.
